Football: Eden Hazard has told Chelsea decision on future

LONDON (REUTERS) - Eden Hazard has told Chelsea of his decision on his playing future but said he would not make it public until after the Europa League final against Arsenal on May 29.
The 28-year-old is expected to leave Stamford Bridge after seven years, with British media linking him to Real Madrid.
"I have made my decision but it is not just about me. I told the club a couple of weeks ago," Hazard told reporters after Sunday's (May 12) goal-less draw with Leicester City on the final day of the league season.
"But it is not just about me. We have a final to play and then I will see."
When asked if he had wanted his future resolved earlier, the Belgian international said: "I wanted that but that's not happened. I'm still waiting like you are waiting and like the fans are waiting.
"When you're on the pitch, you try to be focused on the pitch with the ball. I just try to do the best. I'm not thinking about... my situation or the club's situation, I just try to win games."
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri said he hoped Hazard would remain but would respect his decision.

"I hope he will stay," Sarri said of the playmaker, whose 16 league goals and 15 assists helped his side finish third.
"I think Eden has played here in Chelsea for seven seasons, trying in every match to do his best. Now it's time to respect his decision."

Football: Germany coach Joachim Low treated in hospital after accident but no surgery needed

BERLIN (AFP) - Germany coach Joachim Low has been taken to hospital after suffering an injury while exercising, and will miss upcoming games against Belarus and Estonia, the German Football Association (DFB) said on Friday (May 31).
In a statement, the DFB confirmed that Low was receiving treatment for a crushed artery and would not be in the dugout for the upcoming internationals.
Bild newspaper reported that he had checked into the university clinic in Freiburg with circulatory problems after dropping a dumb-bell on himself several weeks ago, but said that he had not undergone an operation.
"I feel better, but I just have to look after myself for a few weeks," said Low in a statement.
"I am in constant contact with my coaching team and I will be speaking to them on the phone around the two games."
The DFB confirmed that assistant coach Marcus Sorg would take over managerial duties in the European Championship qualifiers, with support from goalkeeping coach Andy Kopke and national team director Oliver Bierhoff.
"The most important thing is that Jogi is back to full fitness in a few days," said Bierhoff.

"Even though I can tell he wants to be back on the training pitch, he is right to take care of himself."
"Marcus Sorg and Andy Kopke know the drill and the team very well, and they will discuss everything with Jogi anyway."
The German squad will assemble in the Dutch town of Venlo on Sunday before facing Belarus in Borisov on June 8 and Estonia in Mainz on June 11.

Football: Arsenal's Lacazette free to face Rennes as Uefa cuts ban

LONDON (REUTERS) - Arsenal's Alexandre Lacazette is eligible to play in Thursday's Europa League last 16 second-leg clash against Rennes after his three-match ban was reduced to two games, Uefa said on Tuesday (March 12).
The French striker was shown a red card for a foul on BATE Borisov defender Aleksandar Filipovic in the last-32 first-leg match and was hit with a three-game ban by European soccer's governing body for serious rough play.
Arsenal appealed against the decision which was partially upheld and Lacazette's suspension was reduced to two matches, which he has already served.
"The appeal lodged by Arsenal FC has been partially upheld," Uefa said in a statement.
Lacazette missed the last-32 second leg against BATE which Arsenal won 3-0 and their 3-1 round of 16 first-leg defeat in Rennes.

Football: Wolves beat Bournemouth in their best top-flight run for 38 years

Football: Wolves beat Bournemouth in their best top-flight run for 38 years

WOLVERHAMPTON, England (REUTERS) - Wolverhampton Wanderers continued their surge in form by beating Bournemouth 2-0 with goals from Raul Jimenez and Ivan Cavaleiro at Molineux to record a third successive top-flight win for the first time since 1980.
The contrast in form between the two sides could not have been more marked, with Bournemouth suffering a sixth defeat in seven Premier League games.
Manager Eddie Howe had stressed the need to quickly forget the 4-0 thumping by Liverpool last time out but the visitors soon fell behind to a calamitous chain of events when Charlie Daniels misplaced a pass straight to Diogo Jota, whose mis-hit shot fell for Raul to tap home at the far post for his fifth goal of the season.
Raul turned provider for Jota with a superb through ball but Steve Cook was alert to the danger and bounced the winger off the ball, a challenge that injured the Portuguese and led to his halftime substitution.
Jota’s replacement Helder Costa sliced his shot when put through by Morgan Gibbs-White as Wolves pushed for the goal that would have put them out of sight.
Bournemouth introduced top scorer Callum Wilson from the bench but his best chance was deflected for a corner and the victory was sealed by Cavaleiro with a cool finish in injury time.
The game was the first ever top-flight clash between the clubs and there is no doubt which of them is currently looking more comfortable at this level.
Wolves’ previous top-flight campaign in 2011-12 ended with just 25 points and relegation. Now they are seventh, one point behind Manchester United.
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo was predictably delighted with his team on a bitterly cold day.
“In this weather, with the wind, cold and rain and against Bournemouth – I’m very proud. We did a fantastic job,” he said.
“Before we were in a bad moment. Now we’re in a good moment. It’s important to realise why. The boys’ character, the way they commit to the work on a daily basis, well done to them.”

Ronaldo could face ex-team United in ICC S'pore

Ronaldo could face ex-team United in ICC S'pore
In the space of nine months, five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo could be set for his third reunion with his former club Manchester United.
After their Champions League meetings late last year, the latest encounter could take place when the International Champions Cup (ICC) swings by Singapore in July.
This year's ICC in Singapore is set to take place at the National Stadium over the July 19-21 weekend and will feature four teams - one more than in the last two years - and two games instead of the previous three.
Sources tell The Straits Times that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are all but confirmed for the visit. United will play two games in Perth on July 13 and 17 first, while Spurs will announce their tour of Asia next week.
When ST was at White Hart Lane last month, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said: "We are looking to try... It is an option we like a lot and we would love to go. I think the percentage is high to be (in Asia) and meet you there."
It is understood that negotiations are ongoing to add Italy's Juventus and Inter Milan to the line-up.
The first edition in 2017 saw Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Inter play at the National Stadium. Last year, it was Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid.
Although the fixtures will only be confirmed on March 27, the new arrangement means the four teams do not need to take a break between matches and the weekend scheduling should attract more fans to the National Stadium.
Alan Chua, a 35-year-old businessman who supports United and idolises Ronaldo, said: "I went to watch United beat a Singapore selection side 8-1 at the old National Stadium as a teenager in 2001.
"It would be a dream come true if both the Red Devils and Ronaldo come back this year."
While Ronaldo has never played here, he visited in 2013 and 2017. Tottenham were last here in 1995, when Singapore beat them 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, while Juventus beat a Singapore selection side 5-0 in the first football match held at the new National Stadium in 2014.
James Walton, sports business group leader at Deloitte Singapore and South-east Asia, said: "Realistically, the two EPL clubs that can really sell out the National Stadium are Manchester United and Liverpool. United would be far and away the biggest draw and a real coup for the ICC if they can get them here.
"The ICC format varies from location to location. Having four teams instead of three, with some of the names on the table, is quite interesting. In previous years, there was always one game with a slightly weaker attendance, and it is usually the one without an EPL team.
"Hopefully, if we can have an exciting EPL team in each game, I believe both games will see significant attendances. One fewer game need not be a bad thing."
A spokesman for organisers Relevent could only confirm that the ICC matches here will take place in July and more information will be announced next month.

Come July, you'll be able to see some of your favourite European football clubs live in Singapore when they head over for their pre-season friendly matches. These include Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, and Inter Milan. The International Champions Cup (ICC) organisers made the highly anticipated announcement on Wednesday (27 Mar).
